Enhance Business Compliance with Effective SOP Implementation
Oklahoma medical marijuana business owners, do you know what a standard operating procedure is? Do you know how it’s going to help you in an audit?
Hi, I’m Katrina Lucas, and I’m a Tulsa medical marijuana attorney with Wirth Law Office.
Importance of Consistency in Procedures
I met with a client yesterday who sells clones. She only grows clones. She doesn’t produce a product. She has mother plants that she cuts and grows clones from, which is extremely supportive to the market. However, because of the OMMA marketing rules and all of the METRC rules and everything else that comes into effect, a plant that grows four inches in a day can go over that 12-inch requirement and hit a different rule.
A standard operating procedure could help in those situations where you have someone who has a measuring process every four, five, or seven days where they check the plants to see how tall they are, and that’s when they get relabeled appropriately for OMMA.
Ensuring Compliance with Laws
There are standard operating procedures that say: we’ll move a plant from this place to this place for waste disposal marking, and we’ll get that process. Every single part of your work that has to be labeled and documented for OMMA should have a standard operating procedure on it so that you can point to: yes, that needs to be done, but it will be done at this step, or we’re in the process of that.
If you don’t have standard operating procedures, it becomes more difficult to defend you on OMMA findings. You have to be consistent, and these are extremely important.
