Important Senate Bill 1066 Update for Oklahoma
Hey, Oklahoma medical marijuana business owners and licensed patients. Hi, I’m Katrina Lucas, and I’m a Tulsa medical marijuana attorney with Wirth Law Office.
There’s a bill that has passed the Senate and is on the House floor to be reviewed. That is Senate Bill 1066. It’s an interesting bill where it’s going to require physicians to be registered with the state of Oklahoma and only practice the three regular practices that have already been defined as able to approve these things—osteopathic, podiatric, and allopathic. So, MDs, DOs, and foot and ankle doctors.
Potential Implications of SB 1066
Again, psychiatry was not added to the list. This bill will require specific medical training on marijuana, which has not been defined or otherwise worked on by OMMA, but it does allow the Board of Medical Examiners to work with OMMA to identify that training.
This is a bill that I see an issue with. If it does go live, physicians will need to be put on this list. So if you are a patient with a license that’s going to be up for renewal in the fall, you may want to reapply earlier or ensure that your doctor is going to be on that list as soon as possible.
