Update on Senate Bill 518
Hey, Oklahoma medical marijuana licensed patients. I’m Katrina Lucas, and I’m a Tulsa medical marijuana attorney with Wirth Law Office.
Senate Bill 518—Oklahoma medical marijuana license holders and business owners, you need to be aware of this one. It’s a law that was going to add packaging requirements to our products. The requirement previously in the Senate that was proposed was a fairly broad and vague statement about the fact that medical marijuana was an intoxicating substance and that criminal action could be imposed against you if you were caught driving while under the influence.
Changes in SB 518
Now, the law has changed to be more specific—being under the influence is an issue for driving. It also added that pregnancy and medical marijuana cause birth defects. The science on that is spotty and unconfirmed with scientific research, but it has also lacked the ability to be fully researched because of the lack of federal laws and approvals.
What’s Next for SB 518
The law will have to go back to the Senate to be approved, so it’s going to be a little bit longer in the session before approval and before going to the Governor. We’ll keep you apprised of any changes in this law, and if it does pass the Senate, it goes back to the House.
