Every City Has Different Rules and Regulations Concerning This Topic
This is Medical Marijuana Attorney Isaiah Brydie, where we operate OK Cannabis Law Office. We help the Oklahoma medical marijuana business. We want to talk to you guys about a question that we get a lot.: “Is this property good for a cannabis business?”
We can’t tell you. There are 77 counties and countless cities and towns in Oklahoma. We have no access to records for these properties.
We suggest that if you’ve got a property that you’re interested in, reach out to the city, the county, the locality, the municipality, the township – wherever that property is located. If it’s a rural property, then reach out to the county. If it’s in the city, then reach out to the city.
And so you’re saying, “Well, who do I reach out to?” Okay. Every town, city, the county is different. They have their own rules, their own regulations on top of the state rules and regulations. And everyone who handles every county or city that has to do a certificate of compliance has a different department that handles it.
So what we’re finding is that in counties, it could be the county commissioner. In cities, it’s either the planning department, zoning department, or permitting. So anyway, you’ll reach out to either the county.
It could be the county commissioners, or someone in the county. You can always reach out to the county clerk and they can tell you who does that. If you’re in a city, then you want to take and reach out to whoever does the permitting, the zoning, or planning, usually is who handles that.
Now if you’re in the city, you may be required to get a certificate of occupancy, which is going to involve the fire marshals. So just note that there could be some additional steps that the township or county or city requires from you outside of what the state requires.
