Today I’m coming to you to talk to you about trade names. Here in the next week or so it’s going to become mandatory when you renew your application with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, or you file a new business application. Just what is a trade name?
I’m going to use my business as an example. We are registered as Ye Olde Apothecary Shoppe, LLC. We are just known as Ye Olde Apothecary Shoppe. We’ve dropped the LLC when we do business.
So needless to say, I have to register our business name or our trade name as Ye Olde Apothecary Shoppe. So I have to register that with the secretary of state. And when we do our next renewal, I will have to provide that information to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority.
Now you’re probably wanting to know why is this change coming about? Well, it has to do with businesses being registered with their business license under one name, but actually doing business under another name that the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority does not know about.
So when a patient or a business owner files a complaint or makes an inquiry as to something involving your business to the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, to OSBI, to the Department of Health, they don’t have a record because you’re known by your trade name on the street and not necessarily by your business name.
Now with mine, we just dropped the LLC. So we’re known, but we still have to do the trade name in order to be in compliance and in order to get our renewal. So it’s going to cost you another $25 with the Secretary of State of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, we just have to comply. If you have any questions, put them in the comments, I’ll be glad to answer them.
